Dwalin is a The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey character that was released on Novermber 27th, 2012.

Lore[]

Dwalin was one of the twelve companions of Thorin and Bilbo on the Quest of Erebor. The son of Fundin and younger brother of Balin, Dwalin was the first Dwarf to arrive at Bag End. He wore a dark green hood and a golden belt, had a blue beard, and like his brother Balin, he played the viol. Dwalin lent a hood and cloak to Bilbo when they set out on their journey. After the events in The Hobbit, Dwalin ruled Thorin's halls in the Blue Mountains. He died in the year 91 of the Fourth Age at the age of 340, very old even for a Dwarf.

His name is taken from Dvalin, a dwarf from the Poetic Edda and other Norse mythology.

Dwalin is portrayed by Graham McTavish in Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit. Recognizable by his bald head, tattoos and black beard, Dwalin is the tallest of Thorin's followers, and his favorite weapon is the war hammer. In a flashback, Dwalin is seen during the War of the Dwarves and Orcs fighting against Azog's Orcs at Moria. The younger Dwalin sported a mohawk hairstyle: a reference to dwarf warrior Gotrek from Warhammer Fantasy.

Description[]

Dwalin has a unique dark brown beard piece, detailed head with scars, and tattoos printed on the back. He has short dark brown legs, a short sand green cape, and a unique, green torso. He wields a war hammer.

Official LEGO.com Description[]

(Do not modify)

Dwalin is a great Warrior. He speaks his mind plainly and is not one to suffer fools lightly. He is fiercely loyal to Thorin Oakenshield, and he has an unshakeable belief in his friend's leadership. A powerful and bruising fighter, Dwalin's instincts tell him to distrust anyone who is not a Dwarf. Particularly Elves. Proud, brave and one of the tallest of the Dwarves, Dwalin will bow to none but those who have earned his respect.
